Science in the River Nadder – help needed!

Monitoring Station on the River Nadder, Quidhampton

We have been contacted via our Facebook page to ask if anyone can help with an ongoing science project taking place in Quidhampton. The DOMAINE project is being run by the Universities of Bristol, Bangor and East Anglia alongside the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology at the Natural Environment Research Council who are also funding the project.

The origins, nature and metabolic pathways controlling the impact of dissolved organic matter (DOM) on aquatic ecosystem and human health are poorly understood, undermining our ability to develop appropriate policy and planning to bring adverse effects under control. The DOMAINE project, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) aims to assess the origins and rates of Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC), Dissolved Organic Nitrogen (DON) and Dissolved Organic Phosphorus (DOP) flux to aquatic ecosystems from the surrounding landscape.

You can find out more about the project here.

Get involved!

You can help this important research project! The project team needs volunteers to help with monitoring rainfall. This involves taking the lids of supplied bottles and putting them back on again after rainfall events. The bottles will then be collected and taken for analysis.

If you are interested and can help, please use the form below to contact Mr Alun Owen of the project team directly or get in touch with him via the Quidhampton Facebook page.

  1. […] The project team have contacted Quidhampton Parish seeking volunteers to assist with the project; they may well be seeking help at the other monitoring sites also. Details are over on the Quidhampton Parish website. […]
